Audi will be showcasing the new Audi R8 at the Geneva Auto Show in March. Two engine options for the 5.2 liter V10 will be offered: 540hp and 610 hp. That is 8 hp more than the Lamborghini Hurácan. Claims of 3.2 secs to reach 60mph from S-tronic 7-speed gearbox. Fuel efficiency has been improved by 10 percent over the previous model. Standard 19 inch wheels are available with first time option of 20 inch wheels.
Even with the added equipment on the new model, weight has been reduced by 110 lbs to a dry weight of 3,205 lbs. This includes extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastics. A new underbody aerodynamic diffuser will increase downforce for the new R8.
Audi has announced an initiative for a zero-emissions vehicle under E-tron that is expected to have a 280 mile range. The new E-tron model should keep up with the 540 hp V10 with a sprint to 60 mph in 3.9 secs. Additionally the new S-tronic 7-speed for the V10 models have the ability to disengage allowing a coast mode. That should result in huge fuel reduction in highway conditions.
The new Audi cockpit features digital displays throughout. This allows for more information to be available to the driver. Sale of the new Audi R8 is expected to begin in the summer of 2015, possibly later for the US market. We are looking forward to seeing the revised Audi R8 in person.
